Taking Stock of my German Forces

I wanted to take stock of my Flames of War Germans, much as I had my Paratroopers. Ostensibly Gepanzerte Panzergrenadiers, I haven't quite built as closely to the list with them as I have the Americans. Along the right hand side, I have the GPzG Company HQ with Panzerfausts and Anti-Tank Section (135 pts) and two Combat Platoons with Panzerfausts and three squads each and the Sd Kfz 251/10 (285 pts each). I have a third platoon I still haven't painted...they weren't much fun and I'm not looking forward to it. But I will do it soon. Ish.

Anyway...in front, we have a Motorized Scout Platoon (160 pts, all Old Glory Command Decision figures), followed by a Gepanzerte PaK 40 Anti-Tank Gun Platoon (200 pts) and a FlaK36 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Gun Platoon with two sections of eight crew (225 pts). In the center, you see four HMG stands, sixteen MG infantry stands, and ten command stands. This is the start of an Old Glory CD early war German force. It's on hold for now as I flesh out the late war forces, but I am using it to fill gaps such as the MG stands for the Scout Platoon. In the left rear, we have a Panzer IV H platoon (475 pts), a Jagdpanzer IV (was on sale, haven't bought the other one to get the necessary two yet), and a sIG33 Heavy Infantry Gun Platoon (160 pts). So, right now I have 1,925 points! More than I thought. Plus, with another Jagdpanzer IV and transport for the HMGs, I can add those units-- a two vehicle Jagdpanzer IV Tank Hunter Platoon (120 pts) and a Gepanzerte Heavy Platoon with no options (200 pts). That would be 2,245 points. Nice.

Speaking of transport, I just painted up three Old Glory Command Decision Sd Kfz 251/1s (CD-304). I also bought the Half Track Crews (44-45) (CDGC-02) and made little removable groups of figures to place in the half tracks when they are carrying troops. I'll label the bottoms and organize the infantry stands off the board.

Carrying troops!

The Command Decision vehicles are noticeably smaller than the Battlefront vehicles. I'm not sure if this bothers me or not. At $4.40 for Command Decision, versus $11.25 for Battlefront, I'm thinking it doesn't bother me that much.

Old Glory vs. Battlefront

One advantage Battlefront has is that it's easier to buy the correct thing. This is the second or third time I've gone to paint CD stuff and realized, hey, I bought the wrong thing! I obviously have a 251/1C when what I wanted was no doubt Sdkfz 251/1D late 1944/45 (CD-317)-- obvious to me now, but I never noticed that at the time I ordered! Gaaaaah!!

  1. Looks good! You don't happen to have one of those halftracks lying around do you? I could use one as a captured command vehicle for my British artillery.

  2. I need those three to haul my PaK 40s, but my next order of some, I'll slip one your way.

  3. There's at least three digits' worth of days before I get to that large battery of Sextons, so *no* hurry!
